Changes at Rolling Oaks Goldens

by Barb

Changes are taking place here at Rolling Oaks Goldens. We are making a training DVD that will document each developmental stage a puppy goes through from seven weeks to four months. It will be a great help for clients to see what stage their puppy is at, and compare it to the DVD. We are also offering a one on one training session/consultation where we meet with our clients when their puppy is about 4 months old. At the consultation, we will give tips on training and observe owner and puppy to see how they are doing. The DVD, training collar, leash and consultation session are included with the purchase price effective June 10, 2010. If you are interested in any of these services, please email for pricing and scheduling.

Riley became a therapy dog

110_1004Hi Barb,

I thought you would like to know that Riley (Banner and Brandy 01/2002) just completed the training and testing to become a therapy dog. Never too old! Due to a couple of relatives being in nursing homes we had already visited many times (not all nursing homes require dogs to be registered therapy dogs). Since we went so often we got to meet many of the other residents. Riley has brought many smiles to many faces and we hope to continue that now. There are many opportunities for therapy dogs working with children, physical therapy and visiting with patients in hospitals. We will probably continue to visit nursing homes but would also like to work with children in some capacity. Riley is 8 years old and is starting to slow down a bit, just like his owner. Over the years we have had so much fun running/walking/swimming together, trying agility we which we had to quit because I kept getting injured (too clutsy) and now our new adventure becoming a registered therapy dog. I am so glad we talked to you at the state fair 8 years ago!!!!!!!!

My theory is all goldens think we were put on this earth to pet them and they are just trying real hard to help us out. I don’t know what I would have done with out his help!

PRONG COLLAR UPDATE

PRONG COLLAR UPDATE

This is an update to an earlier post. You can purchase the prong collar that we recommend here, and you can get additional links here. We use the 2.55 mm size. We highly recommend these products because they lightly pinch the dogs skin when training, rather than using a regular choke collar which can severely damage a dogs throat.

I have also updated the link in the right column.

TIA

Hi Barb and Russ. Thanks so much for the remarkable transformation of our dog Tia (from Ruby and Captains November 2007 litter)! Our whole family is so pleased. Not only does she know all her stuff now, but seems happier for it. We can walk, run, play with her on a whole different level. We are impressed at how far you took her in such a short time. And the DVD of her training sessions is so useful. We could see all the time and love you put into getting her to where she’s at and now we can mimic your training style. Our neighbor boys who help walk her are viewing it so they can be on the same page as we are. Thanks for the unexpected extras – running w/ bike and teaching her to fetch!

Thanks so much,
Tanja & Joel
