toby_20100317-16s20080719_15Hi Barb and Family,

I wanted to send you some pictures of Toby (Captain+Maddie, Feb 2008). He just turned 2 years old and we are so happy he is a part of our life. He is extremely well behaved and we get compliments all the time on how beautiful he is (that’s probably not news to you). Smile emoticon He got his Canine Good Citizen at only 10 months old! We just recently moved and two of our neighbors have Goldens from you as well. One of them, Mozart, is a half brother and they love to play together. We visit the dog park a couple times a week. Between that and our long walks/runs, he is usually pretty tuckered out…at least for a Golden. We’re looking forward to camping with him this summer and trips up to the north shore. Also, Lori and I got married this past summer. I included a picture of the proposal. Naturally, Toby was off exploring something more important.

Hope everyone is well. Take care.

dscn1086dscn1091Barb:

Wanted to give you an update on Stella (Captain/Maddie – Nov 2009).

She is weighing in at a little over 27 lbs of pure joy! In February was had our parvo shot only and in the next week will have the last of the puppy shots. Her eye is 100% recovered from the vaccine reaction. At a year the plan is to give her a proactive serious of eye drops and then the distemper and hepatitis.

To say that she loves water is an understatement. Water in any form – snow, standing, shower, frozen she adores and continues to want more.

Stella & Greta both just graduated from Puppy Kindergarten and are heading into the Total Puppy class next week. Stella is exactly what I wanted. She is calm but playful, listens most of the time and wants to be around people and other puppies constantly. Everyone we meet comments on how 1st beautiful she is but than how surprised they are at how well behaved and calm she is. She is +99% housetrained, comes when called about 90% time and outside of encouraging her to take a nap she is truly exceeding my expecations.

Puppyhood is awesome but also looking forward to see what she looks like as the months progress!

It might be premature, but what are your thoughts adding another dog to the family? Not thinking today but is there an ideal separation of age that does make sense? She has so much fun playing with other dogs that it started me thinking about what it would be like with one around more often. Of course the only other dog would be another Rolling Oaks Golden – I am now officially addicted to the breed and your puppies.

Here are some recent photos – I think she looks like her dad!

p1060512HI Barb,
I haven’t had a chance to look at your website to see if any of Murphy’s siblings sent pictures of their one year birthday, but we wanted you to see how handsome our big boy is! (Murphy is from Captain and Maddie’s Oct. 08 litter). Murphy is a good boy. He is kind of a big goof most of the time. At 85 pounds, he is big and strong, but gentle and patient with the kids. He loves riding in the car and takes his job of taking the kids to and from school very seriously. His only bad habit is chewing on things he shouldn’t. We often find ourselves telling him that he is lucky he is so cute! And cute he is! We have so many people tell us what a beautiful dog he is. Thanks for letting us raise one of your wonderful puppies! Sincerely, Jenny and Mike

Hi from Sioux Falls South Dakota,

We got Jente and Murphy together today to meet and play. They are half brother and sister a week apart in age now 6 months old. Murphy is of Captain and Maddie and Jente is of Captain and Jewel. It was so fun seeing them together. What a fun day!!

We came to meet because we both happened to sign our puppies up for one on one dog training at the same facility. The trainer realized that he was seeing two puppies both from Rolling Oaks and introduced us. He was so impressed by both dogs that he said he would refer any client wanting golden retrievers to Rolling Oaks from now on.

Keep up the good work!

PS. Jente is in the green collar and Murphy is wearing blue in the photos below.

Thanks, Anne

sugar-and-honey-007sugar-and-honey-009Just wanted to send a few pictures of Sugar and Honey. Sugar will be 3 at the end of May and Honey just turned 7 months.
Honey’s parents are Captain and Maddie. Sugar’s parents are Banner and Zena. They are both absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!
And they are excellent companions. We are so pleased to have them in our family! They get along famously and are true “buddies”. They are so fun to watch and they have great personalities. I have never had 2 dogs simultaneously before and it is great! It is actually easier. They keep each other company and it is fun to watch them learn from each other. We couldn’t be more pleased!

Take care,

Bill and Deb

MURPHY

Hi Barb!
Murphy is now 6 months old. He is one of Captain and Maddie’s puppies from last October. He is a very good dog and has become such a wonderful part of our family. He is very sweet. He is a great combination of energetic enough to keep up with our busy life with two young boys, but yet affectionate enough to get in my puppy cuddles. You did a great job picking him for us. Thank you. He loves riding in the car and helping me take the boys to and from school. He has been the subject of two show and tells and done very well. Everyone tells us he is a beautiful dog and they are right! Hope you enjoy the picture of our big boy!

Sincerely,

Jenny and Mike

STELLA

Dear Barb -

Hope all is well with you and your family! Our little gal Stella (pink from Maddie) has been a pure delight and an occasional challenge – which is par for the course with a puppy. She is so smart and has mastered potty training by ringing a jingle bell at the front door and whimpering a bit to go out. She sits patiently as we quickly put on our frozen north gear and is great about getting to business outside. The girls are loving her so much and she is a hit with all the neighbors and friends of ours who just gush over her. She is so patient and has a perfect temperament with our girls. She was such a great pick for us! Her favorite form of exercise these days is chasing the kids (and us) down the sledding hill in our back yard.

She is growing so fast and is up to 22 pounds as of last week. We are really starting to notice the features of her parents in her face as she matures – she is such a beautiful dog. She did end up having coccidia which was quickly remedied and she is quite the little chewer, which has taken us to new levels of “minimalism” in our house to make it puppy safe. Unfortunately, three weeks ago she ate a large squishy child’s toy and it was determined it would not pass safely, so she had to have surgery to have it removed. We were very worried, but she did great and is back to her energetic and sweet self with no complications.

Multiple vet trips aside, we are so thrilled to have her in our family. She starts formal training later this month, but we have already been working with her on sitting, getting down and not jumping. She mastered laying down the other night after minimal time and we have become devoted fans of the practical style and common sense approach of the New Skete monks.

Thank you again for all the work you did to provide us with such a healthy and well prepared dog for family life. She is a true joy!!

Jeanne and Mark

BUDDY

Hi Barb,

Glad to hear from you.

Buddy is doing real well and a joy to have around. He goes everywhere with us and is with us almost 100% of the time. He’s my shadow. I have to take him back this week to the dr for his next shots, but when he went for his last set, he went from 11 lbs when we got him to 22 lbs. He’s so tall already. He is the brightest student in Puppy Preschool (but of course I’m biased), but the trainer/instructor is quite impressed with him too. He goes to the office with me or he’s in the office with Joel.

Here are some pictures that I took yesterday. Enjoy!

Bev
